Eco Office Hacks: A Peek into the BridesMade Office

April 18, 2018

6 eco office hacks

At BridesMade, we value environmental sustainability. We strive to be eco-conscious in every step of our business, and that includes our office!

Earth Day is April 21st, and to honour it we are spreading eco-awareness throughout the week! We try hard to run an eco-friendly office space. Here are some of our tips and tricks that you can try in your workplace to be more eco!

1. Plastic Free

The theme for Earth Day 2018 is plastic pollution. So, naturally, our first tip is related to plastic. Having a plastic free office, can be a challenge. But, limiting your unnecessary plastic can be easy! At BridesMade, we have ceramic mugs and reusable cutlery for employees to use while in the office. They can make their coffee/tea/water at the office instead of picking up coffee or bringing in water bottles. This is an easy way to reduce waste in the office. If your office doesn't provide you with ceramic mugs, bring one in or use a travel mug and get your coffee shop to use your reusable mug rather than to-go cups!

2. Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products

Cleaning products are full of harsh chemicals which can not only be bad for the environment but also bad for your health. Buying eco-friendly cleaning products is affordable and can be an easy switch to make your office more eco-friendly! At BridesMade, the building we have our office in is already doing this!

3. Use Recycled Paper for Printing

Depending on your job, your office probably prints off a lot of paper. In many industries, that's just a reality of the job. We try to limit the amount of paper we print off, but ultimately, here and in many other jobs, you may not be able to avoid it completely. Don't fret, though! Just make sure you buy recycled printing paper. Yes, it's a thing, and everyone should be using it! You can buy it from almost every store that sells paper and it's an easy eco-office hack.

4. Laptops, Not Desktop Computers

Laptops are said to consume up to 80% less energy than a desktop computer. This is an easy way to have an eco-office! Most work on your computer can be done on your laptop anyways. Even if you can't do all your work from your personal laptop, choose to use it when you can! In our office, all employees use laptops and attach a separate, larger screen when needed.

5. Recycle

The next easy hack to implement is recycling! In an office there is so much you can recycle and divert from the landfill. Set up recycling bins in the office (and even take it one step further with a compost bin!) and you'll be able to divert so much of your overall waste. Considering most waste from offices comes from paper or packaging you'll be able to make an impact with this easy eco office hack! BridesMade, of course, recycles.

6. Reducing Recourses through Contained Spaces

Do you have separate rooms in your office? Maybe a meeting room, a lunch room, a bathroom? These are all areas where you can be eco-conscious! When a room is not in use, turn the lights off. Take it one step further by reducing the heating or A/C in certain rooms that don't get used often. This can be an easy way to save money while also being environmentally friendly! BridesMade has two spaces, one of which is used on-and-off throughout the day for short periods of time, so we make sure to keep those lights off and use less temperature control in that room.

And there you have it, our ways of being eco-conscious in our office! You can learn more about how BridesMade works to be environmentally sustainable in every aspect of our business on our Social Responsibility page.
